Question 1 - The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments projects that Montgomery County’s population will increase by 200,000 over the next 30 years. How should the county prepare for future growth?

Transcript: It is difficult to answer such important questions in ninety seconds or less. But to answer the question about the preparation for the projected growth over the next thirty years, I would say not only do we need to prepare for the population growth in our area, we need to have a comprehensive, realistic blueprint on how we will achieve it. We need to have the growth near transit centers and other areas where the infrastructure is existing before or simultaneous as the growth is occurring. We need to make certain that we have school capacity as well to guarantee that every child will continue to be receiving the quality education that we all know is so very important for success. We need to take the necessary time to develop the blueprint, working with all stakeholders – the public, the business community, and all other partners – to help ensure that our blueprint is the one that will be practical and achieve our goals.

Pero para responder a la pregunta sobre la preparación para el crecimiento proyectado durante los próximos treinta años, diría que no solo debemos prepararnos para el crecimiento de la población en nuestra área, sino que debemos tener un plan integral y realista sobre cómo lograremos eso. Necesitamos tener el crecimiento cerca de los centros de tránsito y otras áreas donde exista la infraestructura antes o simultáneamente con el crecimiento.
