Question 2 - If elected, what strategies would you pursue to ensure housing is affordable for people of all incomes?

Transcript: Housing affordability has two main parts: cost and income. On the income side, we need to make sure Montgomery County has a robust economy so that there are job opportunities for people to afford where they live. On the cost side, we need a multi-pronged approach. That includes micro vouchers – which is giving $100 a month to people who need it so that they’re not rent-burdened – it includes increasing supply, it includes social housing, which is the government taking its own land and having buildings built on it since land is a huge driver of cost the buildings will cost a lot less to construct. So we can have market-rate housing, we can have median income housing, and we can have low-to-moderate income housing all together, and then we need to increase the supply of housing, especially near transit. Now, to do this it’s going to take a lot of hard, difficult decisions. I am ready to make those decisions.
