Question 1 - The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments projects that Montgomery County’s population will increase by 200,000 over the next 30 years. How should the county prepare for future growth?

Transcript: So how are we going to get ready for 200,000 people coming to Montgomery County over the next thirty years? Well I just walked down to my basement and I’ve only got one spare room, so we’re going to have to think of something else, and that is: improving our infrastructure, expanding our amenities, and making sure there are job opportunities, which are all the things that make Montgomery County a great place already. So let’s talk about housing: we’re gonna need low-to-moderate income housing, as well as high-end housing, and everything in between. For transportation, we need to make these communities integrate seamlessly with our network of bikes, trains, and buses. For schools, we’ve had school capacity issues for a long time, so we need to get ahead of that now, because building classrooms today is gonna be more affordable than building the classrooms we already know we’re going to need twenty years from now. And we need to work with our neighboring jurisdictions: Howard County, Frederick, Prince George’s, Washington, D.C., Arlington, and Fairfax counties so that we can compete as a region and not just amongst each other.
