Question 2 - If elected, what strategies would you pursue to ensure housing is affordable for people of all incomes?

Transcript: Hello again, I’m still Paul Schwartz. The second question posed by Montgomery for All concerns the strategies I would pursue to ensure housing is affordable for people of all incomes. Clearly there is a need for more affordable housing in Montgomery County to enable people of all incomes an opportunity to live in our community. When addressing this need, however, it is important to not create a different problem while addressing the first problem. That is why the placement of the construction of affordable housing must take into consideration such issues as the environmental impact. As I mentioned in my response to the first video question, I am for placing new construction near transportation hubs to ease traffic congestion. I am also for providing incentives in the form of subsidies to make housing more affordable for teachers, police, and others so they can live in the communities in which they serve. Now with the increasing cost of constructions, due in part to the imposition of energy efficiency standards which aren’t needed, an effective strategy for providing affordable housing, regardless of where placed in our community, must include some form of incentives for builders and owners, whether in the form of tax incentives or some other enticement, to keep costs down so that purchase prices and rents can be required to be more affordable. La segunda pregunta planteada por Montgomery for All se refiere a las estrategias que seguiría para garantizar que la vivienda sea asequible para personas de todos los ingresos.
