Paul Geller - Question 4

Question 4: What does Montgomery County need to do to achieve Vision Zero, eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries?

Transcript: I'm Paul Geller, and I'm running on a platform of making Montgomery County a better place to live, work, and learn in, and one of the ways we can accomplish this is by making our streets safer. Three ways that I would go about doing this. First, we need to have very clearly defined and well-lit crosswalks in our communities with HAWK signals where need be. We should be consulting with the communities themselves to find out where these crosswalks should be located. To make sure that our streets are as safe as possible. Second, we need to better educate our drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike on the rules of the road. Very basic, yet very important. And finally, we need to await more advanced automotive technology that can sense potential issues on the road before we can, because distracted driving from texting and cell phones as well as impaired driving is a major cause of accidents on our roads in Montgomery County.
