Jacqueline Manger - Question 4

Question 4: What does Montgomery County need to do to achieve Vision Zero, eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries?

Transcript: Hello again. I'm Jacqueline Manger, and I'm running for Montgomery County Council. The key to achieving Vision Zero and eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries is a commitment to annual prioritization of the comprehensive Vision Zero plan, and a continued commitment to fund the small staff required to measure and create accountability for action against implementation of the plan. It sounds simple, right? I favor transportation solutions that get people out of their cars, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but we need safe pathways, sidewalks, and bikeways in order to encourage these modes of transportation and connect bikers and walkers to other modalities of transportation, or bring them directly to destinations where they can work, dine, shop, or play. I would prioritize projects that connect places where people live to transportation, like the BRT or Metro, or connect them to town centers or shopping areas where they can buy groceries and access basic services. Funding for the improvements we need to achieve Vision Zero should be a regular part of the end of the CIP budget process. I'm Jacqueline Manger, running for District 7 County Council.
