Marilyn Balcombe - Question 2

Question 2 - If elected, what strategies would you pursue to ensure housing is affordable for people of all incomes?

Transcript: Housing affordability is probably one of the most complex issues that we face in Montgomery County. It’s no surprise that the most, a lot of frontline workers can’t afford to live in Montgomery County and the prices continue to soar, particularly in this last couple years. And so we absolutely need to do what we can to make sure that we can keep affordable units in stock. So a couple things, yes I believe that we need to support the moderately priced dwelling units, that’s one aspect, but we also need to do what we can to allow first-time home buyers to get into homes. And whether that’s tax incentives, incentives to help first time home buyers get in, we also just need to look at a wider range of housing and price points, so that means maybe smaller units, more multi-family units, and really think outside of the box on what housing looks like in the future.
