Question 4 - What does Montgomery County need to do to achieve Vision Zero, eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries?

Transcript: “Okay, let’s talk about making our roads safe for people who walk, who bike, who drive, so we have no deaths on our roads. In order to do that we have to build safety infrastructure, and I’m standing right now in a part of the Silver Spring Circle, which no other elected official did more to bring to it’s partial reality, but we’ve got to get it done, we’ve got to finish it, and this executive has been too slow, dragging feet and making it happen. I want to build safety infrastructure in all of our equity urban areas like Silver Spring and Wheaton and Long Branch and I want to change driving patterns so that people drive more slowly and they prioritize safety, and work with our state in order to make safety a priority on our state highways, on roads like Georgia Avenue, Viers Mill, where people are just dying, they’re dying far too often. I’ve been leading on these issues since the day I arrived at the county council. When I took this seat, no one talked about these issues really, and today everyone’s talking about it. We’re making progress together but we’ve got a lot to do, and as county executive I’m gonna work with you to make that happen.”
