Question 1 - The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments projects that Montgomery County’s population will increase by 200,000 over the next 30 years. How should the county prepare for future growth?

Transcript: “Hello Montgomery County for All, and thank you for this opportunity to share my vision for building a better Montgomery County. The question is, how should the county prepare for future growth? We must invest in infrastructure – schools, roads, public transit – and we must build the walkable, bikeable community that people want. The idea of a 15-minute community, where everything you need is within 15 minutes of where you live, is a powerful and important goal for our environment, for our health, and for our economy, so there is a lot we should be doing. We should be building at least 10 miles of protected bicycle lanes each year. We should be making sure our county buildings, our schools, have bike racks and safe sidewalks. And we need to improve our Ride On bus system to ensure it’s on time and reliable. I proposed making Ride On bus free four years ago; let’s make free fares permanent. Let’s create an accurate and timely mobile app that tracks buses, and let’s implement a route study that creates more efficient routes for our faster service.
