Transcript: “Hello again, Montgomery for All. The question today is, if elected, what strategies would I pursue to ensure housing is affordable for people of all incomes? It’s a fundamental right that anyone who works in our county can afford to live here. It’s estimated that half of our teachers and first responders live outside the county. We must build more housing; housing supply of all types helps drive down the cost of housing at all income levels. Our goal will be to build 30,000 housing units by 2030 to create the affordable housing we need. We’ll attract new good-paying jobs to the county, which we know helps spur housing growth, particularly around major transit stations. We’ll work with housing developers to finance and pay for deeply affordable housing at future Purple Line stations, and we’ll guarantee no net loss of affordable housing for those existing residents. We’ll also be aggressive in leveraging county property – parking lots, parking garages, and county facilities – to build affordable housing.
