Question 3 - Over 40% of Montgomery County’s greenhouse gas emissions come from transportation. What policies and investments would you support to address this?

Transcript: “Good afternoon. I’m David Blair, and the question today is, what policies and investments would we make to reduce carbon emissions in our transportation systems. Okay, let’s first start with the bigger picture. What’s one of the root problems? The lack of affordable housing. By many estimates, up to 200,000 individuals are coming into Montgomery County every single day through work because they can’t afford to live here. Right, these are our nurses, our teachers, our first responders. We must invest in affordable housing here, so not so many people need to commute into Montgomery County. In addition to making investments in affordable housing, we need to invest in a walkable, bikeable community like the one I’m standing on here in Rockville, Maryland. I’ll invest in Bus Rapid Transit. Let’s make RideOn buses free and more efficient, and I’ll also be investing in more public transit options. That’s why I’m running for County Executive.”
