Question 3 - Over 40% of Montgomery County’s greenhouse gas emissions come from transportation. What policies and investments would you support to address this?

Transcript: “All right, how are we going to eliminate emissions in our transportation sector? I’m standing right next to the Silver Spring Transit Center. Behind me we’ve got the Purple Line that’s gonna be coming through here, we’ve got MARC that’s gonna be coming by, we’ve got the Metro, we’ve got bus transit, we’ve got bike sharing and bike parking, and of course pedestrian infrastructure, pedestrian rules. All these things come together, that is how we’re going to eliminate emissions in the transportation sector, by creating great alternatives to driving. And then, for those who will continue to drive – and we know that many people will continue to drive – we have to transition our vehicle fleet to clean electric, so we have to have a clean electricity grid, and then everyone plugs their car into what is essentially solar power or wind power. I have been leading the fight to clean up the electricity grid, and for transportation alternatives so that people have alternatives to driving, and I’m gonna keep doing that as your county executive.”

Spanish: “Muy bien, ¿cómo vamos a eliminar las emisiones en nuestro sector del transporte? Estoy parado justo al lado del Centro de Tránsito de Silver Spring. Detrás de mí tenemos la Línea Morada que pasará por aquí, tenemos MARC que pasará pronto, tenemos el Metro, tenemos tránsito de autobuses, tenemos bicicletas compartidas y estacionamiento para bicicletas y, por supuesto, infraestructura para peatones, reglas para peatones. Todas estas cosas se unen, así es como vamos a eliminar las emisiones en el sector del transporte, creando excelentes alternativas al viajar en automóvil.
