Evan Glass - Question 3

Question 3: Over 40% of Montgomery County’s greenhouse gas emissions come from transportation. What policies and investments would you support to address this?

Transcript: 42% of our carbon emissions comes from our transportation sector. If we want to reduce our carbon emissions, we need to increase our public transportation, which is why I have been working to make our public transportation network more robust, more reliable and more affordable. When I led the effort to expand our bus network to make it free for all kids all the time, youth ridership increased 57%. And I think that if we made our buses free for everyone, it would also yield similar benefits, making more people come on tour buses, get them off our streets and reduce our overall carbon emissions. We also need to increase our electric vehicle systems here and I'm hoping that the federal infrastructure plan will provide us money to do that. But we also need to green our fleet as well and we're on our way to doing that. And so there's much more to do, but I think we're heading in the right direction, with bus rapid transit, with free buses, and with electric charging stations all throughout the county. I think the future is green.
