Evan Glass - Question 4

Question 4: What does Montgomery County need to do to achieve Vision Zero, eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries?

Transcript: In the year 2021, there were 480 people who were hit while using our roads here in Montgomery County. They were struck while walking or biking and 480 is one too many. And tragically there were 10 people who were killed while engaging in the same types of everyday exercises, just going to school, going to work, going to the grocery store. And we need to do a better job here of making sure that every person is safe on our roadways, whether they are walking, whether they're biking, whether they're rolling and yes, whether they're driving. And the ways we can do that is by lowering our speeds on our major roadways. Creating protected bike lanes, building more sidewalks. We need an above the board strategy for all of these things. And I'm going to make sure that when we start getting funding from the federal infrastructure plan, we apply it to our roads. We work with the State Highway Administration so that we can rethink and repurpose our roads so that they are safe for everyone.
