Evan Glass - Question 2

Question 2: If elected, what strategies would you pursue to ensure housing is affordable for people of all incomes?

Transcript: In order to build more affordable housing here in Montgomery County, we have to have an understanding that we need to build more housing. That is the fundamental building block to building more affordable housing. We also need to increase the Housing Initiative Fund so that we have more money to preserve and protect and provide affordable housing, whether it is subsidies for people to be able to stay in their homes or funding to go to public-private partnerships to physically build more infrastructure. We also need to be more creative. We need to rethink parking garages and other types of County-owned property and think how that can become housing, whether they are parking structures or WMATA property. I'm strongly in support of building transit-oriented development by Metro stations, by or on parking lots, and any other creative strategies here, because housing is incredibly expensive. Housing is incredibly scarce, and we need to think outside the box in order to fix this.
