Question 1 - The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments projects that Montgomery County’s population will increase by 200,000 over the next 30 years. How should the county prepare for future growth?

Transcript: “There are many things we need to do in Montgomery County to prepare for our future growth. Here are three. One, we need to build more housing. I’ve served on the board of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, or COG, since 2015, and recently was selected by my colleagues in 24 jurisdictions in the DMV area to serve as the Vice Chair. I was part of the COG board when we adopted the regional housing targets and Montgomery County needs to do more to do our part. We need to build more housing so that people at different income levels can afford to live here, and we need to build more housing at transit and activity centers. The second thing we need to do is we need to encourage and have more job growth in our county, and to ensure that people can open and expand their businesses here. We need to make Montgomery County a great place to live and work. Third, we need to improve our infrastructure and our public transit. We need to make sure that people can get from place to place, not just to get from home to work, but also to doctor’s appointments and other places. The bottom line is we need leadership in Montgomery County that is proven and that can multi-solve, that can look at the issue of housing and make sure that we are working towards our sustainability goals and our equity goals at the same time, because we need to build and create communities where long time and new residents can live and thrive.”

Spanish: “Hay muchas cosas que debemos hacer en el condado de Montgomery para prepararnos para nuestro crecimiento futuro. Aquí hay tres. Uno, necesitamos construir más viviendas. He servido en la junta del Consejo de Gobiernos Metropolitanos de Washington, o COG, desde 2015, y recientemente fui seleccionado por mis colegas en 24 jurisdicciones en el área del DMV para servir como vicepresidente.
