Join us to learn about why a sustainable, equitable future is one without new highways or highway expansions. Throughout the Unites States' history, highways have been a tool to destroy Black neighborhoods and perpetuate environmental injustice. We know from decades of research that more highways and bigger highways equals more driving, and that to combat climate change Americans must drive less. Register here!
Montgomery County's new general plan, Thrive 2050, originally included strong "No New Highways" language, but that language was watered down by the County Council's Planning, Housing, and Economic Development Committee. Coalition for Smarter Growth and other advocates are making the case to bring back the strong language when the plan goes to the full County Council.
Panelists:
- Dr. Sacoby Wilson, University of Maryland Center for Community Engagement, Environmental Justice, and Health
- Josh Tulkin, Maryland Sierra Club
- Margaret Schoap, Transit Alternatives to Mid-County Highway Extended (TAME) Coalition
The event will be moderated by Jane Lyons from the Coalition for Smarter Growth and there will be an opportunity for audience questions.
