Transcript: “If elected,” for question number two, “what strategy would you pursue to ensure housing is affordable to people of all incomes?” First off, I would start by asking what constitutes lost revenue on housing projects and investigating the causes. Are these numbers realistic? And what ways are available to us to minimize these losses? Build during warmer temperatures, use metal studs versus wood studs, modify and rehab existing dwellings versus complete demolition, find licensed contractors that are willing to specialize in rehabilitating existing dwellings, involve nonprofits in specialized construction projects. Most importantly, involve the community in a monthly meeting to discuss the housing projection, research to date, and solutions versus challenges. I would like to lead that monthly meeting with the council and community. This meeting will include representatives from the master plan board, sector plan board, and the fundamental plan board.
